We may be overweight and we need to asses the severity by calculating our body-mass index (body weight divided by the square of height).
Due to the index, below 18.5 is underweight, 18.5-24.9 is normal, 25-29.9 is overweight and over 30 is obese. Especially, if the index is 40 or above, this means the weight is causing severe harm to the organs, and the reason is not just a simple eating disorder.
Now we are aware and determined. First, we need to consult a physician for a general control, blood tests and blood pressure level. There might be an onset of hypothyroidis, diabetes or hypertension that yet we don’t know of.
If test results are in normal range, now we have mutiple choices for treatment such as making life style changes, improving our knowledge about nutrition and diet (dietary habits and healthy food choices), medical therapy, non-surgical procedures and obesity surgery.
